Woodland no end (10th August)

The landscape were my grandma live consists predominantly of mixed woodland with an occasional upland lake so choosing a birding location isn't very difficult.  My lack of local knowledge didn't help so my best bet was simply to make as many visits to various places to try and find the best birding hotspots.  Today focused on the local woodland and as well as the usual Crested Tits, Black Redstart, Tree Sparrow and another 2 Middle Spotted Woodpeckers, I was pleased to find another conifer specialty, RED SQUIRREL (another lifer)!  A single Robin skulking in the undergrowth was also the first I had seen on the holiday abroad (apparently a much more secretive species on the continent than the well know tame Robin that is so often seen in British gardens).  Other highlights included 2 Firecrests, 2♀ Silver-washed Fritillaries, 1 Peacock, dozens of Green-veined Whites and Large Whites along with another new species.  2 MAP BUTTERFLIES (both 2nd broods).
